I am enjoying the lessons! I’m attempting to pound and finesse many of the techniques taught into my own playing.
I started out by copying the exercises and examples exactly, but realized I wasn’t actually learning how to play like Chuck. I was only copying licks. Then I started the hard work of trying to use many of those same licks and phrases in my own playing. It’s been slow going. My playing reflects more of an art school jazz student style, while Chuck's is so drenched in Southern, more traditional, piano styles. I like that I’ll be able to “throw the switch” and play like Chuck when needed. Having the ability to go where Chuck goes opens up new doors, and adds a nice and needed contrast to my playing.
